Description

It's took a looot of time. Two days ago I was fired from work and I've got some time for myself :)
It feels like it my first painting cause I've tryed so many new things for me (like working on background which I always hated), painting water for the first time, sky...

Done in Ps7 + mouse

I want to say thank you to Arenhaus cause I've changed my attitude to painting thanx to him

It is very important work for me and every crit or advice can be very usefull, so, please, try to add something more than "Great work" :)

Well done on the details and the idea is very nice. The waves...some parts are blurred too much, but quite good considering they're your first. The sky is very nice too. Overall I like this one.

well done on the idea. I agree, the only problem I really see is the blurred-ness. I think if you kept going at it, and kept adding sharp details here and there, it would look really good. the white caps on the waves should be sharp, the blue part of the waves is nice though, I think. maybe some more hints at detail on her fin, like scales. and maybe some more details in the hair. see more of strands rather than one solid color. the sky is very nice though, I wouldn't change it.

agree to Juro and slaphapy5 but
it is some kind of 'trick' to have the foreground 'blurry' and only the main objects clear. in this case the light is too floating over the whole picture, may be it could be better to highlight and contrast the main scene and darken the surrounding.

nice work on the clouds and water I do think that mans wings could have been bigger?
and maybe an extra download for detail shots or a larger image
looking at this size I cant see the details you put in
nice one curlyhair
keep up the good work

Quite well done, Nadia. And with a mouse... OUCH!!!
I think I'd have blurred the clouds and horizon some more.

Blur more,blur less...People! You confuse me! :)
Kittykat,I've tryed a bigger wings. I like these more.

curl, really good work on the clouds and sea. also the characters are well made.
my crits :) : i think wings could be bigger, mermade ,aybe should be topless or use a natural plant from the sea to cover itor her hair, and the place where she becomes a fish could be a little higher- i mean before her legs start.
but dont get me wrong it doesnt bother me that much, just little advises i think could help :)

Cool work Nadia, the clouds are fine, I mean clouds don't have any one specific look. I know what they are. Of course we haven't seen any around here now for oh....... who knows. Its been the longest drought in over 120+ years were I live. Lucky me. Sorry, a tangent there. Why is the male sorry, did he push her off of the rock? :)
It's really good Nadia, it's good to see a new painting from you.

Big Effort deserves raising up the hat...
i have nothing to crit actually about the figures..they r doing goooood
and for the colors..the green yes may be the ruling color but it is ur mood so no one can argue about it.......
EXCELLENT WORK AND EFFORT...i raise the hat

Darturbrain, thanks for comments and crits. The wings were big in the beginning but they were too standart for,I wanted something unusual and it's funy:such abig demon with such a small wings:)About plant in her hear - actually I thought about it, I just was too tired of this pic and I forgot to add it :)
I know it's not perfect.
Alterpha. Wait! I'll comment your work too! Kiya!! It's good to paint again too
Simba, toda. Yep,it seems I was at a green mood:) Thank you for encountering - I hope I wrote this word correctly...

:) Quite good composition, even though it is central. The figure are well posed
:) Good colour palette
:( Many areas are unrefined or blurred. Try using a harder brush. You tend to take a low opacity brush and paint extensively with a single colour. Try considering exactly what colour each area should be rather than choosing a colour and distributing it over the canvas. If you do it right, you won't need to rely on low opacity to blend your colours, they'll blend naturally. It's difficult to expain in words so to be honest I don't expect this to be much help.
:( Your waves are quite good but very restrained. A huge spray of foam might have been more effective than the sky you have.

Thank you a lot! I'll try another brush.. Painting with mouse is hard to make nice strokes with a hard brush, but I understand what are you talking about, I'll try it. Blurness is because of fear, seeing that I'm painting some things for the first time: when I see that I'm close to the image I want, I'm afraid to continue and to ruin the small success of mine:) I'm working on that problem.
About waves...other than blurred I like them like that, they are exactly at the height I wanted:) Maybe if you would have painted the foam it would be more effective
I don't know what foam you're talking about...
Thank you again:) I'm fond of your comments, gfx needs people like you

First time painting water? Well, you've done fairly well considering that, curlyhair. I paint with a mouse too so I know how challenging it is sometimes.

+ 6/9
+ Sky is beautifully painted
+ Soft complimentary colors and well done hues
+ Good composition and placement overall
+ Characters are placed in the middle making this a balanced central scene.
+ Nice use of light and dark shading

- While you've done a great job creating movement with the waves, the blurriness is overused. A couple of members have already suggested what I would recommend to fix this though.

Thank you, mjkingz.
liquidd, I'm learning. Baronimpossible gave me some good tips for painting and I hope the next painting won't be that blurry. If you have your own secrets about painting with mouse, you're welcome to share them with me:p Thank you for your comment: I paid attention that when you pointed for me the good things too - I saw some things I didn't see before.. It's amazing: good professional compliment can also be very constructing. Thank you

Very nice painting, but it's a little too blurry.... try to use brushes instead of aerpgraph tool :) Very nice colours, the sea is well done, but the anatomy of the "angel" is a little off. Anyways, great work!

Avatar starqueen

the clouds are awesome!

the entire picture seems too blury or undefined, i think you're trying to make it too smooth. on your next one, or this one too, zoom in more than 100% and use a very hard brush to add in larger splotches of a solid color on hightlights or shadows. that should help make it look more defined zoomed out.

nice, i like the how youve captrued the emotions of the figures through thier expressions. i feel the figures would benefit from darker shadows in some areas, to give them more depth, but all in all well done :)

Great job!!

Thank you all!! I tryed here a lot of new things for me so I was kinda hesitating and didn't dared too much, that why it's blurred. Thank you for your comments - I didn't expected so much attention:)

The water looks good, but maybe the foam is too 'dotty'? I mean, try to make it more whole, at least parts of it. Maybe. I haven't really tried it for myself, so...

Avatar PeterGrave5

 08/03/05 @203

the characters seem a little fly swatted a little flat,

i mean the clouds are amazing, i mean i love it, the water great, although the color seems to match the clouds to much...still great looking, the wings they seem slightly to small to support the guy...great technique just wanna try and say what others might miss *shrugs* this is good though

The clouds look good in the top of the picture but there are several anatomy errors like the goblins hand, feet and the mermaids torso area and her head. If you worked on those and added more saturated colours to mid tones the image would look a lot better. The mermaids tail looks good but the texture should be smaller and sharper to be more realistic. I hope that helps.
